Start by placing the pork shoulder in a slow cooker. In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, root beer, sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, diced red onion, minced garlic, and black pepper until well combined.
Pour this sauce over the pork in the slow cooker, ensuring it's well covered. Set the slow cooker to low and let it cook for about 6 to 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shredded.
Once cooked, shred the pork using two forks and mix it back into the sauce. Serve this delicious sweet pork in tortillas, on rice, or with your favorite sides.
